Oahu Hawaii

Dec. 12 - Dec. 17
Flight: NW
Hotel: Miramar at Waikiki

This was the first time we went Hawaii. We left Settle at 5:30pm. It took us about 6 hours to arrive in Honolulu. We stayed at Miramar at Waikiki, a hotel just one block away from the famous Waikiki beach.

We went to Waikiki beach the second day. Walking along the beach, swimming, running, the warm whether made us excited. In the afternoon, we had a long hike from the Waikiki beach to the Diamond Head Crater, from where one can have a great view of the Waikiki beach.

One day 3 we went snorkeling. Waring goggle to look at colorful fish swimming around coral reefs, that's definitely one of the most interesting thing we ever did in Hawaii. I actually took some pictures of fish using a waterproof camera.

Rented a car at Hertz, we drove around the island on Day 4. Like most tourists, we drove by Blowhole, Sandy beach, Chinaman's Hat. The waves around North shore were quite large. Maybe we will surf next time. We dropped by the famous Dole Plantation. This is the first time I ever saw pineapples in the field.

On day 5, we mainly visited the Polynesian Cultural Center. It's a good learning experience. There were seven villages, representing seven Polynesian island cultures including Tahiti, Samoa, Tonga, Fiji, Hawaii, etc. We rushed from village to village to see the scheduled shows. Polynesian people are warm and happy. Their shows are quite informative as well as entertaining.

We returned to Seattle on Day 6. It's a very cold night especially after a few summer like days in Hawaii. Fortunately, we missed one of the worst storm in the Northwest, which cause the loss of power for millions of people.
